Welcome to the Sherwood Valley Tribal Youth Program!

Please take a look at the services we offer below.

                                 Tribal Youth Diversion Program

yax kanema (Strong Relative) Program

In this program, youth increase their skills in leadership, self-expression, identity, and education through cultural arts, workshops, gathering weaving materials and food, and exploring our
environment with community members who share their own skills, experiences, and traditional knowledge.

We are also working to raise awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP). This aspect of our program helps youth address the impact that MMIP has had on them and their community, and supports efforts to raise awareness through youth-led campaigns, projects, and collaborations with other tribes, agencies, and programs in the Mendocino County area.

Cultural skills, Northern Pomo language, education support, case management, technical and leadership skills, community engagement, and community trainings and workshops are some of the highlights of our yax kanema program.

If you would like to learn more about this program or enroll a youth, please contact Stephanie or David

pʰidin yaʔ ja:ʔ (Watching Over Our People) Program: Celebrating Families Through Wellness

In this 16-week circle, families come together to learn about various topics, including healthy boundaries, nutrition, goal setting, how drug and alcohol use impacts individuals, families, & community, healthy communication, and more!

pʰidin yaʔja:ʔ uses our cultural and traditional knowledge and language to help families learn and develop their skills across a wide variety of topics.

We can only accept a limited number of participants in each cohort for this series. Our next cohort will begin in September 2026. Keep an eye out for our flyer!

Education Program Shabaldano Kai Kawi Learning Center

This is primarily an after-school program to help students succeed in school and build meaningful connections with peers and adults in the community. We offer tutoring, cultural and traditional activities, arts and crafts, and local field trips. We also collaborate regularly with the Sherwood Valley Tribal Youth Diversion Program, providing students with access to a wide range of activities, workshops, and skills-building opportunities.

The Education Coordinator also provides support for any students with an IEP or any other circumstances where an advocate would be beneficial for the student and their family.

We are open Monday through Friday, after school lets out until 5 pm. We do provide transport to our program, as well as home after for any students who need it.

If you would like to learn more about this program, please contact David.
